The BLACK & TAN jazz ensemble was founded by bandleader/pianist
Paul Hefner and vocalist extraordinaire Tara Nova nearly a decade ago. The ensemble's ever-evolving shows now also features vocalist Songbird TAEKO. This original show is the 7th annual
Multi-Cultural Salute to Black History Month.
The Sunday New York Times featured our significant contribution to the arts, with our message of "We are all One," though new jazz musics created by living members of the Long Island Composers Alliance, specifically for these performers!
This evening's show features compositions by
Henry Martin and Paul Hefner.
These vocal musics are based upon poetry by African-American poets including Paul Laurence Dunbar and Langston Hughes, as well as Cuban poet Nicholas Guillen.
